Bloodline - Mattel 80th anniversary tribute

Coarse has unveiled Bloodline: Miracle on Eternia, a sculpture celebrating Mattel’s 80th anniversary. The piece blends elements from three of Mattel’s most iconic toys: He-Man, Barbie, and the Fisher-Price Chatter Telephone.

The sculpture captures the way childhood play blurs boundaries between different worlds. He-Man and Barbie, sculpted with Coarse’s signature elongated forms and muted tones, stands in an almost ethereal stillness. In their arms, they hold a Fisher-Price chatter telephone as a new born baby.. Surrounding them, a group of Coarse’s signature rabbits gather, their presence evoking curiosity and reverence, as if witnessing something sacred.

The scene is more than a fusion of characters; it is a reflection of how play allows us to create new narratives. As children, we let He-Man and Barbie share adventures, ignoring the boundaries set by branding or canon. The sculpture captures that spirit, reminding us that nostalgia isn’t just about remembering—it’s about the freedom to invent, to shape our own stories from the toys that once defined our worlds.

Coarse, a design studio known for its sculptural storytelling, often explores themes of identity, memory, and transformation. With Bloodline: Miracle on Eternia, they offer a fresh perspective on Mattel’s legacy, showing how its characters continue to evolve in the minds of those who once held them in their hands.
