Mushroom Festival Interview
Can you introduce yourself and your role in the Mushroom Festival organization?
My name is Abby, and I am the founder and organizer of the Mushroom Festival. Together with my husband, we handle the entire planning and execution of the event. From curating artists and exhibitors to managing themes and logistics, I’m involved in nearly every aspect. My goal is to create a vibrant and inclusive platform for artists and fans to celebrate the creativity within the art toy community.
What inspired you to create or participate in this art toy event?
My love for art toys started as a personal interest, but I gradually discovered the passion and talent within this community. I wanted to create an event that not only showcases these amazing creations but also provides a space for creators and collectors to meet, share ideas, and grow together.
What sets the Mushroom Festival apart from other industry events?
The Mushroom Festival stands out because of its emphasis on creativity and community, as well as its open-ended approach to themes. We don’t fixate on specific themes, giving artists the freedom to express themselves however they see fit. This ensures that each event is filled with fresh, diverse, and inspiring works, making it more than just a marketplace—it’s a true celebration of art and imagination.
How do you select the participating artists and exhibitors?
Our team is just me and my husband, so we personally handle the selection process. Each year, we review a wide range of artworks and select artists based on their style and how it aligns with that year’s vision. We aim to feature diversity by including both well-known names and exciting newcomers.
What is this year’s concept for the event?
We don’t set a fixed theme for the event because we want to give artists maximum freedom to create. We believe every artist’s inspiration and creativity are unique. By removing thematic restrictions, their works often carry delightful surprises, adding diversity and possibilities to the festival.
How does the Mushroom Festival support and contribute to the art toy community?
Being art toy enthusiasts ourselves, we understand how important it is for creators to have platforms for exposure and interaction. Through this event, we aim to help artists gain visibility and connect with others. We also strive to create a warm and welcoming atmosphere where both veterans and newcomers feel supported and encouraged. Along the way, we’ve learned and grown together with the community.
What challenges have you faced as an event organizer, and how did you overcome them?
The biggest challenge has been the lack of manpower, as it’s just me and my husband managing everything. From contacting artists to setting up the venue, every detail requires our personal attention. It can be overwhelming at times, but we share responsibilities and motivate each other. Remembering why we started this event keeps us going, and seeing people enjoy and support the festival makes all the effort worthwhile.
What are some of your favorite moments from past events?
My favorite moments are seeing the interactions between visitors and artists. Once, an artist told us that they sold their first-ever piece and made many new friends because of the event. It was incredibly touching and a huge encouragement for us. Another highlight is the lively and creative atmosphere during the festival, which makes us forget all the prior hard work.
What is your vision for the future of the Mushroom Festival?
I hope this event becomes an international platform connecting artists from around the world while growing bigger each year. We aim to attract more artists and fans globally, turning the festival into a truly international celebration.
