Takashi Murakami: the king of color and pop

Born in Tokyo in 1962, Takashi Murakami grew up immersed in post-war Japanese culture. From a young age, he found early inspiration in manga, anime and his mother's artistic influence. By age four, Murakami was already copying manga characters.

At Tokyo University of the Arts, Murakami studied traditional Japanese painting but began blending it with modern Western styles. In the late 80s, he developed his signature «Superflat» aesthetic - bright colors, bold lines, and a distinct lack of depth. Smiling flowers and anime-inspired characters became hallmarks of his unmistakable style.

His 2002 Louis Vuitton collaboration under Marc Jacobs was a global sensation. Murakami's vibrant designs graced bags, clothes and runways, making his art part of everyday life. He went on to partner with Adidas, Supreme and more, forever changing the art-fashion landscape.

Today, Murakami is a global phenomenon. He is brought joy and color to the world while forever changing the face of contemporary art.
