    Tag Day
“Every Day is Tag Day” is an annual event to encourage pet owners to tag and microchip their cats and dogs so that a lost pet has a better chance of being recovered. This day was created by the American Humane Society and is celebrated on the first Saturday in April. It brings together thousands of animal control agencies, veterinarians, and humane organizations. The specialists say that tags and microchips increase the chances of a lost pet being found and returned safely, that's why they insist on mandatory chipping.
This procedure is painless for your pet friend. Indoor pets, too, require identification badges and microchips. Many of the strays in shelters are lost indoor pets. Make sure your pet is wearing a collar with a current identification tag, rabies tag, and city license. Include a name, address, and day and evening phone numbers for each contact. Provide a phone number for a backup contact, such as a neighbor or family member. Maintain up-to-date information on the pet's license, tags, and microchips. Place a temporary tag on dogs with the phone number of someone who knows how to contact you when moving or traveling.
