Moscow's First Art Toy Meetup

A user pictureOn January 27th I attended the first meetup in Moscow dedicated to designer toys, and it was such a great experience! The atmosphere was buzzing with energy as artists, collectors, and enthusiasts gathered to share their passion for these unique creations.

I had the opportunity to meet some talented creators and learn about their inspiration and the stories behind their work. And I would like to share some of these insights with you – below, you will find a selection of quotes I collected during the meetup. Enjoy!

Ilya Popov, Founder & Owner Riki Group, Art toy collector
Designer toy is a unique direction of modern art, which combines an array of different forms. On the one hand it is sculpture, as the figure has a real volume, and on the other hand it is a canvas on which artists and designers can apply the author's interpretation. Everything we see is an anthem of collaborations, constant reinterpretation, play.

Vladue, Artist
If you want to create figurines now, you don't need a team, you don't need a factory. You need a 3D printer, which you can buy inexpensively, and that will already allow you to start creating figurines. You don't need to look for galleries, online shops - if there are any, that's great. But if you're a small artist, you just go on social media. Social media makes it so much easier to network, to collaborate, to build a community.

Fedor Parshin, Dobrotorium Art
You have to love a toy. Toys follow us through life: a child is born and parents give him a toy. The child grows up and the toys become more serious. A toy is, first of all, a story. Think up your story and embody it in the form of a symbol - a toy. If you heartily and lovingly make it, it will be enjoyed by everyone.
